파랑새, which is Korean for Bluebird, is the latest addition to our family of Twitter clients. Visit their website at http://applecat.kr/ to learn more about 파랑새, or head straight over to iTunes and download it!

When you’re ready for Boxcar to open 파랑새, just refresh your Twitter client list and voila! 파랑새 will appear.

Yeaah!!! We’ve been looking forward to this day for quite awhile over here at Boxcar. That’s right: Hootsuite is now a supported client!

Until the next official release of Boxcar (3.0.1, coming soon baby!) you’ll need to refresh your Twitter client list to add Hootsuite to your client list.

Seesmic for iPhone was just released about 25 minutes ago, and what do you know: Boxcar already supports it!

Just refresh your Twitter client list, and Seesmic will be listed at the top!

We’re super-psyched over here. Boxcar 3.0 was just submitted and of course it includes iPad support. To celebrate, we’re giving away an iPad.

Just include the hashtag “#boxcar” with any tweet of your choice, and follow @Boxcar on Twitter. No kidding, that’s it. It’d be totally cool if you’re actually talking about us in the tweet, but hey, if not that’s fine too.

Only one entry per day is allowed, but tweeting with #boxcar 24 hours later means you’re entered again! So in short, follow us and fire off a tweet with #boxcar in it once a day for the next 7 days. Winner winner, chicken dinner!

Each day a single winner will be selected, whom is entered into the final drawing. The final drawing will consist of 7 previous winners, of which only one will win the iPad. The contest period for each day is from midnight CDT to 11:59 PM CDT the the same day. The contest runs from Monday, May 17th to Sunday, May 23rd at 11:59 PM CDT.

Oh, and if you’re not a Boxcar user already, we fully expect you to become one once you get your brand new iPad!

Introducing Boxcar Streaming

Affectionately nicknamed the ‘farm’, we’re pleased to introduce real time access to your own Boxcar notifications.

View the documentation here. We’ve created a sample Ruby implementation over on Github.

This is a technology preview for developers. What does that mean? It means it may go down. It will break. Things will change rapidly. This is just a way for us to introduce it to you, to see if it fits the need we think it’ll fill.

How does it work? WebSockets and JSON. Maintain your own persistant connection to our server and we’ll send you your notifications as soon as we see them. No kidding, it’s actually faster than the Apple push notifications we already send out.

What would we like to see you do with it? Here’s our first idea: someone please come up with a desktop Mac client that displays your notifications. It’d be awesome in a box and we’ll love you forever.

PS - Yeah, that’s the web 3.0 under construction sign over there. We were feeling nostalgic. So sue us.

Checkout our User API! It’s dead simple and an easy way to get even more value out of Boxcar if you’re a developer.

And when you’re ready to graduate to sending notifications to LOTS of people, head on over to read through our Provider API. :)

We also just published our boxcar_api gem (checkout the source here!). It makes integrating with Boxcar just like eating cake: tasty and delicious. Or something like that.

Making it even easier to send notifications as a provider

I’m pleased to announce that we now also allow sending of notifications by hashed email address, in addition to the existing service token/secret method.

The original thought process behind a token/secret for each service was for those of you that wanted to allow a user to add your Provider multiple times. In that case, each service had to have it’s own separate token/secret in order to make sure you push it to the correct service.

For those providers that only allow a single installation of their service, then pushing by the users hashed e-mail address is 1000x easier than storing the token/secret for each service.

The provider API documentation has already been updated, so be sure to check it out!
